Characters in Bramah’s Discovery (Book 3)
Bramah: An elusive time-travelling locksmith, demigoddess and hero of the saga. On the hunt for the beggar, Amahl, trapped into playing an eternal game of climate chess. Her motto is Let All Evil Die and the Good Endure.
Amahl, the Beggar: Captured by a rogue portal, kidnapped and imprisoned in Baghdad, part of the underground world of the Court of Al-Rashid.
Al-Rashid: An incarcerated political prisoner, a double agent of the Consortium, undertaking clandestine operations such as kidnapping, extortion, blackmail and the control of orphan children. Born in Liège, his real name is Mads and by profession he is a semi-conductor manufacturing executive.
Rafe of the Fifth Gate: Mercenary with a shadowy past, on hire to the Grand Vizier and on the take from Al-Rashid, Rafe was once a young orphan recruit loyal to the legendary Raphael.
The Grand Vizier: Simply put, a really bad guy: functions as a global Minister of the Interior for Consortium interests, headquartered in the
Green Zone, Baghdad.
Sonali: Young daughter of Sherronda and adopted daughter of Raphael, last seen at the end of Bramah’s Quest (Book 2).
Seed Savers, Beggars, Resisters: Textile workers, labourers and displaced orphans, often indentured to Consortium factories.
T-LOHK (The Last Of Her Kind): An itinerant scribe, bartering her services to record the stories of Seed Savers and textile workers who pay her in scraps of parchment. She will also work for Consortium when the price is right.
The Supernaturals
The Oracle Abisha: Beloved of street children, she is deft in the art of disguise: Seed Saver or textile worker; a debonair Sword warrior; or an old crone. Abisha insists that Bramah continues to find Amahl.
Lord Vish-Verge: Mystic trickster and philosopher-guide. He thinks of himself as a blend of Vishnu, lord of preservation and Virgil, the poet; however, this provenance is dubious at best.
Fanon and Gavroche: two mythical beasts imbued with magical powers. They represent, simultaneously, a number of ephemeral conditions, caused by accelerating climate change: they were once seasons, April and October, and now can shapeshift into the feline.
All characters are uninvited settlers on the unceded territories, the world over, of First Peoples.
